Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been under construction for quite some time due to the addition of the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, due to open on August 29th. The massive construction overhaul includes a brand new automobile entrance, expanded parking area, new bus terminals, the Disney Skyliner and now a totally re-imagined front entrance.
Disney is well aware of the massive crowd levels that Galaxy’s Edge will bring and they are going to be ready for it.
The new automobile entrance off of Victory Lane now makes entering the parking lot much more efficient with ten open traffic lanes. A much needed upgrade from the old two lane entrance off of Buena Vista Drive.
The old entrance is now being utilized for bus transportation only and will lead to the beautiful new bus terminals (still under construction). These terminals are located much closer than the current temporary setup and will be within short walking distance to the new entrance. The new bus terminals will be open on March 19th.
The Disney Skyliner is designed to provide mass transportation to and from multiple resorts and theme parks. The skyliner station will provide quick and easy access to the newly imagined front entrance. Guests staying at Disney’s Caribbean Beach, Pop Century, Art of Animation and the new Riviera Resort will now be within minutes of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Currently the parking lot tram is dropping guests off in a temporary location, creating an extended walk to the entrance. This will all change with the addition of a new tram loading area located directly in front of the new security entrance.
Brand new tram walkways have been poured and are awaiting the signature palm trees and lighting that Hollywood Studios is well known for.
The current Friendship Boat-dock area will remain in the same location and will continue providing a beautiful and peaceful journey to Epcot and the surrounding resorts.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios has one of the most iconic entrances out of all the Disney Theme Parks. It truly creates that Hollywood vibe from the 1930’s when Walt was beginning to make his mark on the world. Currently, there just isn’t enough infrastructure to support the newly expected crowd levels, so Disney has already started a massive upgrade.
The newly imagined front entrance will nearly triple the amount of security tables, allowing far more guest access and far less frustration on the way to a Galaxy far far away.
The structure that is currently being built is only half of the entrance and will extend completely across the entire front.
With that being said, the current Sorcerer Mickey centerpiece will be removed to allow the new entrance to be finished.
Below should be the new front entrance perspective walking up from the Bus terminals and Disney Skyliner Station. From what I’ve heard, Mickey should be relocated to this area and possibly even re-imagined to fit the new current theme of the park.
Disney is certainly making bold moves at Hollywood Studios, which will certainly become one of the premier theme parks in central Florida. It’s uncertain if the entire entrance will be complete by the August opening for Galaxy’s Edge or if it will open in two separate stages. Make sure to follow PASSPORT TO THE PARKS for more information to follow. May the force be with us all.
