Disney’s Magic Kingdom Construction Update April 2019

The Magic Kingdom is getting ready for their big 50th anniversary celebration in 2021, with the addition of the new Tron Lightcycle Power Run, a Tomorrowland Speedway track refurb and some cosmetic work around Cinderella Castle.  Today, we took a “live” look at the ongoing construction inside the park.

The moat around Cinderella Castle has been drained, beginning at the edge of Adventureland and continuing through Tomorrowland.  A secondary walkway that runs from Liberty Square behind the castle into Fantasyland is being widened.

Currently the path is pretty narrow, only allowing about three or four guest to pass at shoulder width.  The expansion will give guests that extra room to prevent bottle-necking during busy periods.  The moat area will most likely get some much needed cleaning as well.

The Tomorrowland Speedway has been closed during some of the Tron Lightcycle Power Run construction.  We will most likely see some changes in the track layout, due to the placement of Tron.  The speedway is scheduled to reopen on May 18, 2019.

The biggest construction news comes in the form of a massive new attraction being built in Tomorrowland, behind Space Mountain.  The new Tron Lightcycle Power Run will light up Tomorrowland in brilliant blue neon and is set to open by the 50th anniversary in 2021.
