The Orlando Sentinel was recently given an exclusive first look at the brand new Disney Skyliner gondolas at Walt Disney World. According to Dean Huspen, a principal architect with Walt Disney Imagineering, Disney’s vision is to provide “the most magical flight on earth.” Disney also released a wonderful video (seen above) demonstrating the interior of the gondola cabins.
Disney’s 300 gondolas are currently wrapped in white plastic, but will gradually be unveiled starting in May. We can expect to see eight bright colors and 22 character themes, according to Disney leaders on hand Tuesday.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Disney Skyliner will travel around 11mph, over more than six miles of cable. Ride times will range between five and fifteen minutes and will elevate guests from 15 feet to about 60 feet in the air.
Disney is projecting a fall opening date, but will begin a testing process with cast members starting in August.
The exclusive first look provided by the Orlando Sentinel shows twin wooden benches that can accommodate up to 10 guests, including wheelchair access.
Thomas Mazloum, a Disney senior vice president who oversees transportation and resorts, said the gondolas will be “absolutely comfortable”, and have been “specifically designed with the Florida climate in mind”. Reflective windows will block out the sunlight and mesh screens on both sides will allow for a comfortable breeze.
