The Disney Parks Blog shared the start of the Halloween holiday season today, along with one of the most popular Halloween Time traditions – the 17th season of the Haunted Mansion Holiday gingerbread house. Oogie Boogie takes center stage, after a 13-year absence in the ballroom, thrilling fans of “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.”
Tim Wollweber, associate art director for Disney Parks, designed this year’s house. It features Oogie Boogie trying to fix a bug infestation that has taken over the mansion. His solution is to grab a fork and start eating up the bugs. The ones that get away are free to torment the gingerbread zombies across the ballroom table.
The house is six feet tall to the roof point, but the animated Oogie Boogie himself is seven feet tall. There are more than 70 bugs “scurrying” across the ballroom table and the ballroom itself.
The Disney Parks Blog asked the creative team at Disneyland Resort Central Bakery – Executive Pastry Chef Jean-Marc Viallet and Lead Pastry Chef Edgar Urtola – to share their ingredients list:
- 200 pounds gingerbread
- 200 pounds powdered sugar
- 4 gallons egg whites
- 1 gallon lemon juice
- 30 pounds white chocolate
- 50 pounds gum paste
- 8 ounces (each) food coloring (blue, purple, orange, yellow, red)
- 16 ounces green food coloring
- 50 pounds fondant
- 1/3 pound glitter
- 200 hours Disney Culinary Magic
