The Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the most iconic attractions at Walt Disney World. It is one of the most popular rides that guests have flocked to for many years and it’s history goes all the way back to Walt Disney himself.
The Pirates of the Caribbean was scheduled to open at 9am this morning and had a fairly large crowd anticipating the rope drop. Not everything goes as planned sometimes and even Disney has unforeseen issues. The ride was delayed for about 30 minutes before finally being able to board. Once we were all happy aboard our boats, well…more difficulties…and cast members had to kindly escort us all back outside. Again, after another 20 minutes we were finally let back inside and able to set sail.
Disney was kind enough to had out fee fastpasses for the inconvenience. This gave me the chance to ride several time…so that was a bonus.
The Pirates ride has had different changes through the years with the addition of Jack Sparrow and Captain Barbossa from the movie baring its name, but none seemed to resonate like the most recent change. The classic “auction scene”, featuring the town wenches being sold off to the pirates has now been updated. The scene which once championed the famous quote “we wants the redhead” has now been changed to “we wants the rum”. The lovely redhead waiting her turn on the auction block has now transformed into a pirate herself complete with rifle and a speaking role.
The scene doesn’t seem to distract from the ride itself. Disney was able to blend it smoothly enough, that it seems to add to the story instead of detract from it.
We will always remember how much “we wants the redhead”, but now we will just have to settle for the rum!
