WOW! What an exciting and historical experience today, when I was able to capture the very first gondola vehicles suspended on the Disney Skyliner. I have been following the Skyliner progress for quite some time now and have learned so much along the way. Today was the magical moment that we’ve all been waiting for, as we finally saw actual vehicles moving along the haul rope.
Now, these are not the actual Disney Skyliner gondolas that will transport guests back and forth between resorts and parks, these were maintenance gondolas carrying construction crews and equipment. They were in the process of running the communication cabling between Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This cable will be used to track electrical currents in the air and dissipate lightening strikes down through the towers.
The Disney Skyliner has been moving along at a rapid pace. All of the haul ropes (cables that the gondola cars travel on) have been run to each station. Crews will continue to install the rest of the communications cabling to the other stations and then a vigorous testing phase will begin.
You can be sure that I will continue to bring all of the exciting changes and updates as they occur. Eventually we will see the actual passenger gondolas and then finally, in the fall of 2019, we will take our first breathtaking ride!
Stay tuned to PASSPORT TO THE PARKS to enjoy the journey.
